SFBB will provide both in-house rec and travel basketball opportunities during the 2024-2025 winter boys basketball season. In-house rec registration for grades 1st - 12th will open on October 1st. Stay tuned for more information on in-house rec registration.  

REGISTERING FOR TRAVEL TEAM TRYOUTS

The travel basketball program provides players who have more advanced skills and abilities the opportunity to participate in a competitive environment. It is for boys who reside in South Fayette Township and are in grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.  Boys must play at their 2024-2025 grade level. No player younger than 3rd grade may try out for a team.  Boys must attend tryouts to be considered for a travel team. Not all boys will be selected to play on a team.  

Travel basketball requires a commitment from the player and his family during the season (roughly November through March). Travel players can participate in games and/or practices approximately 3 to 4 days per week. Travel games are typically in the South Hills area, but some leagues and tournaments will require further travel.  Travel teams typically play in multiple tournaments. Travel teams for grades 4th - 8th will particpate in our 2024 South Fayette Tip-off Tournament scheduled for November 8th - 10th.

Registration: Register to try out for travel basketball at www.sfboysbasketball.com. You MUST register on the website to try out for grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.  No walk-in tryouts are allowed. Note that if both parents/guardians wish to receive communications regarding basketball this season, please enter email addresses for both parents/guaradians when registering.

Deadline:  Registration ends September 3, 2024.  Do NOT wait to register.   We cannot guarantee that late registration requests will be honored, and no such requests will be accepted once tryouts have begun. 

Tryouts: Each player must attend the tryouts for his own grade. There will be two tryout sessions per grade (one session per weekend). We are still finalizing dates, but are targeting holding tryouts as follows: (i) Session 1 - September 13th, 15th and 16th and (ii) Session 2 - September 20th, 22nd and 23rd.  As soon as we determine exact dates, times and locations, we will advise. Players are strongly encouraged to attend both tryout sessions, but are only required to come to one to be considered for a team.

Tryout Cost: There is NO cost for trying out. 

Ball Size:  Each player will need to bring a basketball to tryouts. Grades 3rd - 5th play with a 28.5" size. Grades 6th - 8th play with a 29.5" size. 

Player Costs if Selected: If selected for a team, the cost is estimated to be $275 per player, which must be paid at the time your son accepts the position on the team. We are finalizing the cost. The fee covers a uniform, practice gym time, and entry into 1 travel league (including referee fees) and at least 1 travel tournament. Tournaments and/or additional league play will be at the discretion of each team and coach to decide. Teams do enter into additional tournaments and/or leagues. The additional tournaments and/or leagues are at the team's own expense. Spectator entry fees are often charged at league and tournament games. 

Selection: Team selections will be made promptly after the conclusion of all tryouts. Decisions will be communicated via email.

Coaches:  To be considered as a head or assistant coach, please register when prompted during the player registration process. All head and assistant coaches must provide their current clearances to SFBB before practices begin. You are strongly encouraged to upload them when completing the registration.
